Das »Yijing« (frühere Transkription: I Ging) ist das älteste und vermutlich das weltweit bekannteste Buch Chinas. Hervorgegangen ist es vor drei Jahrtausenden aus einem Prozess, dessen Anfang in der Verwendung kosmischer Symbole zu Orakelzwecken bestand; seine (aus dem kontemplativen Daoismus herstammende) Grundvoraussetzung ist die Erkenntnis, dass das Sein und damit auch der Mensch einem unablässigen Wechsel unterliegen und dass das einzig Beständige der Fließprozess des Seins ist.
Das Werk ist aufgrund seines Alters und seiner Fülle rätselhafter, äußerst knapper Formulierungen eine philologische Herausforderung; hinzu kommt, dass sich jeder Übersetzer durch die Schichten der Überlieferung und der Kommentierung hindurchgraben muss, um eine eigenständige Lösung anbieten zu können.
Der Frankfurter Sinologe Rainald Simon unternimmt dieses Wagnis. Die Wiedergabe und Übersetzung der knappen Formulierungen des »Yijing« selbst wird ergänzt durch Übersetzungen der sogenannten »zehn Flügel«, der Kommentare, die seit dem 3. und 2. vorchristlichen Jahrhundert entstanden sind und die notwendig wurden, weil die in archaischer Sprache und noch dazu in überholten Schriftformen und in einem eigenartigen Stil verfassten Orakelsprüche schon zu jener Zeit nicht mehr ohne weiteres verständlich waren. Abgeschlossen wird jedes der 64 »Kapitel« durch eine Erklärung des jeweiligen Hexagramms.

- New : This is a new book, unused, unread copy in perfect condition.
- Very good: A book that looks new but has been read. Cover has no visible wear. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, and no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins, possible very minimal creasing.
- Good : The book has been read but is in good condition. It has very minimal damage to the cover, including scuff marks. The binding has minimal wear. The majority of pages are undamaged with minimal creasing or tearing. There are no missing pages. A book in fair condition, the text pages and illustrations will be complete.
