トンボは決して後ずさりをしない。蝶や蝉は何度か脱皮をくり返し、輪廻転生をイメージさせる。命の危険と隣り合っていた武士達は、身に付ける金工刀装具のモチーフに多くの昆虫をあしらった。その美しさと自然を敬う感性は、遠くヨーロッパの地で新たなアールヌーヴォー芸術として花開いた。幕末を代表する金工師である正阿弥勝義とエミール・ガレの作品を中心に、類似点、相違点を御覧下さい。また、勝義と同様、当時の代表的な金工師である後藤一乗の没年が覆ることになる直筆の手紙が登場する、コラム：「新発見 後藤一乗の手紙」も必見です。
